The deviant Asif Mohseni

A scholar from Afghanistan called Asif Mohseni, who claimed to be a Shia Muslim, has made a lot of deviant claims.

1: Asif Mohseni and the enemies of the Ahlalbayt (AS)
2: Asif Mohseni's misleading methodology of Hadith verification
3: The Shia scholars & Mohseni himself about Asif Mohseni

Asif Mohseni and the enemies of the Ahlalbayt (AS)

Asif Mohseni said in his book that Abu Bakr, Umar ibn al Khattaab and Uthman were rightly guided caliphs. Basically, he is saying that the whole Shia school is on falsehood, as the Shia believe that Imam Ali (AS) is the rightful successor of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Asif Mohseni says:

Secondly, if we put aside the dust of bigotry, we will see that the Shia do not deny the caliphate of the rightly guided caliphs. And all of them admit that after the death of the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, people pledged allegiance to his Excellency Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, and then to the second caliph, then to the third caliph, and after him to the fourth caliph.

Comment: According to the Shia narrations, it is wrong to even think that Abu Bakr and Umar had any share in the religion of Islam.

Sheikh As-Saduq:

Narrated to me Mohammad Ibn Al-Hasan from Mohammad Ibn Al-Hasan As-Saffaar from Abbaad Ibn Sulayman from Mohammad Ibn Sulayman Ad-Daylami from Is’haq Ibn Ammar As-Sairafi who asked Imam Musa Al-Kadhim (Peace Be Upon Him), he said: “I said: May I be sacrificed for you, please tell me about those two persons(i.e. Abu Bakr and Umar). I have heard a lot of traditions about them from your father.” Imam (Peace Be Upon Him) replied, “O Is’haq! The first one is like the calf and second like Samiri.” I said: “please tell me more about them two, may I be sacrificed for you”. Imam said, “I swear by Allah! Those two made people Jews, Christians and Magoosi, May Allah not forgive them.”
I said: “please tell me more about them two, may I be sacrificed for you.”
Imam continued, “There are three kinds of people at whom, on the Day of Judgment, Allah will not look and He will not purify them and for them there will be painful suffering.”
I asked: “May I be sacrificed for you, who are they?” Imam said: “A man who claims to be an Imam and, in fact, it is not from Allah, and the other one is someone who taunts an Imam appointed by Allah. Third is the person who thinks that the two(i.e. Abu Bakr and Umar) had any share in Islam.”
I said said, “May I be sacrificed for you, please tell me more about them two.”
Imam (Peace Be Upon Him) replied, “There is no difference, O Aba Is’haq, if I delete a verse of the Book of Allah or if I deny the Prophet-hood of Mohammad or if I claim that there is no lord in the heavens or if I proceed ahead of Ali Ibne Abi Talib (Peace Be Upon Him).”
I said, “May I be sacrificed for you, please tell me more.”
Imam (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “O Is’haq! There is a valley in Hell called Saqar. It hasn’t taken a breath since the time Allah created it.  If Allah had permitted it to take in the breath equal to the tip of a needle, it would have sucked all the people of earth with it and burnt them to ashes. The people of Hell seek refuge from its extreme heat, stink, filth and chastisement, which Allah has prepared for those who deserve it. There is a mountain inside it. All the residents of this mountain seek refuge from the extreme heat, stink, filth and chastisement of it, which Allah has prepared for them. Surely there is a ravine in this mountain. All the residents of this mountain seek refuge from the extreme heat, stink, filth and chastisement of this, which Allah has prepared for its residents. There is a well in that ravine and all the residents of this ravine seek refuge from the extreme heat, stink, filth and chastisement of this well, which is prepared by Allah for its residents. There is a serpent in that well. The residents of this well seek refuge from the filth, stink and poison of this serpent, which is made for its residents by Allah. There are seven boxes inside this serpent, out of which five are concerned with past Ummahs and two are related to this Ummah.” I asked, “May I be sacrificed for you, who are those five among the past and two in the present?” Imam (Peace Be Upon Him) replied, “As far as the past five are concerned, they are Qabeel; for he murdered his brother Habeel, Nimrod for he fought with Ibrahim (Peace Be Upon Him) regarding the Lord and said that he gives life and death, Pharaoh; for he said that he was the supreme lord to his subjects, Yahuda; for he made people Jew and Paul, who made people Christians and from this Ummah are the two Arabs (i.e. Abu Bakr and Umar).”

Footnote: (Sheikh Al-Mahuzi): Bihaar Al-Anwaar: 30/407, Al-Khisal: 398.
And its chain is like Hasan(Good), it is rather Hasan(Good), its narrators are trustworthy and significant scholars and narrators, except for Abbaad Ibn Sulayman, but the great scholars like Al-Saffaar, Sa’d Al-Qummi, Mohammad Ibn Al-Husain, Ahmad Ibn Mohammad have narrated from him, and also Mohammad Ibn Ahmad Ibn Yahya has narrated from him in Nawaadir Al-Hikma and the scholars of Qom have not excluded him of its (trustworthy)narrators.
And Mohammad Ibn Sulayman Ad-Daylami, Al-Najashi has mentioned him and has said: “he is very weak and he cannot be taken as basis for anything.” I say: “Indeed As-Saduq has taken him as proof in Al-Faqih and the great and significant scholars have narrated from him, like Mohammad Ibn Isa Al-Ash’ari and Ibraheem Ibn Hashim and Mohammad Ibn Khalid Al-Barqi and Ali Ibn Al-Hakam and Al-Yaqtini and Mohammad Ibn Ahmad Ibn Yahya and Ahmad Ibn Mohammad Ibn Isa Al-Ash’ari and others. And in the narration of Ibn Abis Suhbaan from him it becomes evident that he had a high position and significance among scholars and his narrations in reliable books are too many and the source of critics is clear and that is the accusation of Ghuluw, which is rather a sign of his high status.”

Asif Mohseni goes further than that, he doesn't only praise Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman, but he also calls on the Shia to do the same and to say "May Allah be pleased with him" after mentioning the name of every companion (Sahabi) on the pulpit.

Asif Mohseni:

In the practical aspect, it is important not to insult another religion, not to break the other's pride and not to speak ill of their religious leaders. What if in a speech we mention the name of one of the companions, then we say Radhiyullahu Ta'aala Anhu (May Allah Be Pleased With Him). Thousands of people will become happy during our speech, they will have a positive opinion of us. What claimant do we have to speak sarcastically? Throughout the history, not a single Shia became a Sunni and not a Sunni became a Shia because of these insults, but with ethics, with good and polite arguments, many of them may come to the truth.

Comment: According to a Hadith, the person who doesn't disassociate from the enemies of Imam Ali (AS) is also an enemy.

Sheikh At-Tusi:

Sahih(authentic): and also it has been narrated from him(i.e. Al-Husain Ibn Sa’eed) from Al-Nadhr from Yahya Al-Halabi from Ibn Muskan from Isma’eel Al-Ju’fi who said: I said to Abi Ja’far (Peace Be Upon Him): someone who loves Amiral-Muminin (Peace Be Upon Him) but does not disassociate  himself (i.e. do bara'a) from his enemies, and he says: He (i.e. Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him)) is more beloved to me than those who opposed him. Imam (Peace Be Upon Him) said: such a person is confused(i.e. has mixed his religion) and he is an enemy, so do not pray behind him and he should not be respected, unless you do Taqiyya from him.

Furthermore, Asif Mohseni says that the Shia should respect the false school of Abu Hanifah and Asif Mohseni even says "Rahmatullah Alayh" after the name of Abu Hanifah:

ثالثا، امام جعفر صادق عليه السّلام استاد ابو حنيفه رحمه اللّه بوده و مقام علمى و معنوى ايشان بسيار عالى بوده است و حداقل از مقام علمى رهبران مذاهب اربعه كمتر نبوده است، پس نبايد پيروى از ايشان در نظر اهل سنت سبب اشكال و ايرادى گردد.

شيعيان بايد به فقه حنفى احترام بگذارند و سنيان نيز به فقه جعفرى اعتراف كنند

Thirdly, Imam Jafar Sadiq (peace be upon him) was the teacher of Abu Hanifa Rahmatullah Alayh (May Allah Have Mercy On Him), and his scientific and spiritual position was very high, and at least he was not less than the scientific position of the leaders of the four major schools of thought, so following him should not be a cause of problems in the eyes of Sunnis.
The Shia must respect the Hanafi jurisprudence and Sunnis must acknowledge Jafari jurisprudence.

In the following video Asif Mohseni praises Abu Hanifah and Mohseni even claims that Abu Hanifah died on the path of defending the Ahlalbayt (AS).

Comment: Abu Hanifah was the enemy of the Ahlalbayt, there is even a Hadith where Abu Hanifah got cursed by Imam al Kadhim (AS).

Al-Kulayni:

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Muhammad ibn Hukaym who has said the following. “I asked (Imam) Abul Hassan Musa (a.s.), ‘May Allah take my soul in your service, “Please make us Faqih, people of proper understanding in religion. Allah has granted us the blessing of your existence among us and has made us independent of other people. This blessing is so great that even if a whole group of us would come to one place no one would need to ask an other come up with a question so that the other would prepare and answer for it. Sometimes we come across an issue for which we have heard nothing from you or from your forefathers. We than look into the best of the resources with us and the closest that we have with us from you, can we take such a finding as an authority? “Never, never, by Allah O ibn Hakim many people have been destroyed in it” Reply from the Imam (a.s.). Ibn Hakim has said that the Imam then said, “May Allah curse Aba Hanifah who used to say, “Ali said so and so, therefore, I said so and so.” Muhammad ibn Hakim has said that he told Hisham ibn al-Hakam, “By Allah, I only wanted the Imam to give us permission to use analogy.’”

Asif Mohseni's misleading methodology of Hadith verification

Asif Mohseni claimed a high position and he claimed to be the scholar who will distinguish the weak narrations from the authentic narrations of the Shia.
But in reality, Asif Mohseni was a very lazy, corrupt scholar. Asif Mohseni didn't even bother to really research the narrations by external means, he didn't check if a Hadith can be also found in another book/chapter or if the Hadith has another version in another book/chapter.
Asif Mohseni has two books on Hadith verification which are widespread on the internet, often used by the enemies of the Shia: Mashra'at Bihar al Anwar (where he supposedly tried to categorize the reliable narrations of Bihar al Anwar) and Mu'jam Al Ahadith Al Mu'tabara (where he supposedly tried to collect all the reliable Shia narrations).

Asif Mohseni:

I did not mention in the book the narrations that are not reliable in its chain, (but) which are surrounded by useful evidence, for the calmness of the soul in its issuance, as it requires an effort to be made (it needs more research).
It (the reality of reliable narrations) is broader and more, but it (this book) is a useful and fruitful work, as (otherwise) a sentence from the weak becomes a reliable proof, and perhaps someone else will do it one day and complete the purpose of the book, God willing.

Comment: Asif Mohseni admits here that he didn't look at the external evidences of every narration of the Shia, before grading them. Asif Mohseni merely looked at the mentioned chain, without looking if the same narration has been narrated multiple times or in other books. But instead, Asif Mohseni bizarrely suggests that someone else can find the other reliable narrations which can be proven through external means. So he basically admits that his work is incomplete and that someone else can correct his shortcomings. Asif Mohseni:

Some of the narrations that have been mentioned in Bihar al Anwar have unreliable chains, so we deemed them to be weak. But it (the same narrations) may have reliable chains in one of the four (Shia) books, which the author (Al-Majlisi) often doesn't give an account of because of its fame. I rarely refer to this. So it may have a reliable chain in the other source, or in another chapter of Bihar. We have deemed the narrations to be weak, based on the mentioned chain in the (particular) chapter (in Bihar al Anwar), and we didn't want to deem it (the narrations) to be weak in the absolute sense, don't overlook that.

Comment: Again, Asif Mohseni admits that he didn't research the narrations properly, he merely looked at the mentioned chains of the narrations in Bihar al Anwar, while simultaneously admitting that al-Majlisi deliberately didn't mention the chain in many cases because of the fame of the narration.
So again, the gradings of "weak" of Asif Mohseni are useless.

The Shia scholars & Mohseni himself about Asif Mohseni

Sadiq al Rohani:

Question:
What is your opinion about the book (Mashra'at al-Bihar) of Asif Mohseni?
Answer:
In my opinion, the book (Mashra'at Al-Bihar) is a project that aims to drop hundreds or even thousands of noble traditions, instead i would like the author to have written a book in which he tried to authenticate the traditions by means of external references about their authenticity, instead of dropping them. If he had done that, he would have done a great service for Shia Islam that (the value of it) couldn't be estimated. Source: Official website of Sayyid Sadiq al Rohani

Ali al Milani:

What do you say about the book (Mashra'at Al-Bihar) of Muhammad Asif Mohseni? What is your assessment of his method? And what about the author and his scientific level?

Answer: No prominent scholar of the seminary has approved his work as far as we know.

Mohammad al-Sanad:

Mashra'at al Bihar? The destruction of Bihar al Anwar. What kind of method is this? What kind of arrogant method is this? Do we live in the jungle? Are we going back in time?

Asif Mohseni:

"Third point: “My opinion on authenticating the traditions in general differs with many of our scholars, and of course there are differences to be found between my fatawa and theirs (the scholars). And I'm afraid to issue those fatawa. And the difference (between me and the other scholars) that exists in the field of doctrine of the faith, the knowledge of reasoning and Ilm ur-Rijaal. And I don't dare to introduce to the people a new kind of jurisprudence (Fiqh) and doctrine (Aqaed) (from my own perspective), that can presumably lead to a new kind of school of thought (Madhhab) after my death, where in the case you assume it's wrong, it would lead to the deviation of the believers. But now that I have no Marji'iyah among the normal people, I have expressed my opinions with courage to a limited extent.''

Comment: Asif Mohseni admits that his beliefs are so deviant that a new religion/school of thought will emerge, if he really expressed all his views.
