Was Fadhlollah a Bakri Mufti?

Sayed Mohamed Ali al Hashemi al Mashadi:

''The first thing we heard in Qom from the said person (Fadlollah), is what he has said in an audio tape about Sayidah Fatimah al Zahra (as). He (Fadhlollah) says: 'I doubt the narrations that claim that her ribs were broken.'

We heard this in the winter of the year 1414. This has caused a lot unrest between the people of knowledge, and the normal people. A number of respected people had immediately taken the initiative to write a letter to him (Fadlollah), in which they explained to him about the danger of his views. These (people who wrote the letter) were: Sheikh Hadi al-Radhi, Sheikh Hasan al-Jawahiri and Sheikh Baqir al-Irawaani. They came together in the house of Sayed Ja'far al-Ameli in Qom. They had told him about the danger of the situation and the fierce answers from Ayatollah Sayed Qolbayqani against the said person. Sayed Ja'far al Ameli wrote him a quick letter on 2 Jamad al Thani 1414, in which he asked about the situation. The answer came on 3 Jamad al Thani 1414. He (Fadlollah) said that his sayings about the broken rib and the miscarriage were not confirmations but question marks. Then Sayed Ja'far al Ameli sent a letter with all sources about the subject, on which Fadlollah's answer came. He (Fadhlollah) said that he did not study these sources. And later after he had studied the sources, he (Fadhlollah) said that it belongs to the foundations of the sect. This answer was distributed in Qom and it (Fadhlollah’s answer) caused rest. Until he (Fadhlollah) repeated the same thing again, what prompted Sayed Qolbayqani to write a letter to him, criticizing him about dealing with such issues that causes unrest and confusion.
He (Fadhlollah) sent the same letter to Sayed Qolbayqani, but the strange thing is that he (Fadhlollah) disavows the letter in one of his lectures

He (Fadhlollah) visited the Islamic Republic to attend several conferences in Tehran. Sheikh Mahdi al Attar invited him to Qom to give a lecture in the Shaheed al Sadr mosque, to make his (Fadhlollah’s) name shine after it was blackened by what he had said on the subject of Sayidah Fatimah al Zahra (as). He came to Qom and was received as a guest by Sayed Ja'far al Ameli. A number of scholars saw this as an opportunity to visit him because he was in Qom. They have seen him in the house of Sayed Ja'far al Ameli for more than an hour, during the meeting a discussion arose. This is what happened according to a number of attendees:

It was one o'clock in the afternoon at 21 Sha'baan 1414, those who were present were: Sheikh Mohammed Mahdi al Asefi, Sheikh Baqir al-Irawani, Sayed Ala'a Musawi, Sayed Husain al Tabrizi, Sayed Ahmad al Hakeem al Khateeb, Sheikh Mostafa al Mansoeri, Sayed Ali al Badri and Sayed Ja'far al Ameli.

Shaykh al-Irawani started the meeting (by saying): "They have made a mistake by inviting you for a lecture in the Shaheed al-Sadr mosque, the atmosphere among the Iraqi people is tense, which can lead to problems and violence.

Fadlollah said: 'I inquired the Iranian brothers about it, they were not against it.'

Sheikh al Irawani: 'You should inquire the Iraqis, not the others, for they know the situation of Qom the best.'

Fadlollah: 'There is no Shia scholar who is as well known as me, the American and International intelligence agencies have founded this movement against me. I have spoken about the broken rib in a questioning form and let it move to the academic possibilities, why are you students? Are you not supposed to research and think? '

Sayed Musawi: ‘It can be seen that you are doubting about the Ahlalbayt and their virtues, why is it like that?’

Fadlollah: 'I am not doubting, I want to open the doors of academic analysis, are you not supposed to research and think about things? '

Sayed Musawi: 'Do you want an academic research about everything or (only) about some matters'

Fadlollah: 'About everything.'

Sayed Musawi: 'Then tell me about your academic words about the grave of Sayyidah Fatimah al Zahra (as), if it is known, then what is the exact location? '

Suddenly it was quiet and no answer could be given. Sayed Ameli intervened because it was embarrassing and he said: 'The grave can be in al Rawdah al Baqee or her house.'

Then he (Fadhlollah) spoke about how famous he is, and then Sayed Tabrizi intervened by saying: ‘You are not more famous than Sheikh Montadhari.’

Fadlollah: "That's right."

Sayed Tabrizi said : 'Be aware that Montadhari has fallen because of his attack on the right of Sayidah Fatima al Zahra (as) over Fadak and you are a second Montadhari in the eyes of the Iranians. The Prophet said:’Fatimah is a part of me, whoever hurts her, has hurt me.’ This applies until the day of the judgment. '

Fadlollah said: 'If they insult me, my grandfather Imam Ali (a) was also insulted.'

Sayed Tabrizi said: 'Those who insulted Imam Ali (a) were the followers of Banee Umayah, you are being insulted by the Shia Muslims.'

Fadlollah said: 'The Shia killed Imam al-Husain (a).'

Shaykh al-Mansuri said: "Those (who killed Imam al Husain) were the followers of Abee Sufyan's family."

The people who were present were amazed because of the answers (from Fadlollah) that looked like the answers that were used by the Wahhabi’s against the Shia Muslims. They were surprised that this was said by a Shia scholar.

Sayed al Musawi said: 'Sayed we have come here to ask you to reject the invitation of the Shaheed al Sadr mosque, because it will lead to a fitna between the people. If there is a need to speak, you can do it in the mountains of Amil in Lebanon. '

Fadlollah said: 'This has to happen, but I will tell what keeps you satisfied.'

Sayed Ahmed al Hakeem said: 'You should say what keeps your grandmother Zahra (a) satisfied.'

Sayed Ameli called the attendees to eat together, Fadlollah wanted to walk out of the house but was stopped by Sheikh Mansouri, and he said to him: 'Sayed I have a question in my heart that I want to ask, I want a clear answer. '

Fadlollah said, "Ask."

Sheikh Mansouri said: 'Is the broken rib an established fact according to you or not?'

Fadlollah said: "This is famous among the Shia Muslims."

Sheikh Mansouri said, "Let's not talk about that, tell me about your opinion."

Fadlollah said: 'I don’t have researched this subject, this is a fitna.'

Sheikh Mansouri said: 'You have caused it (the fitna).'

Fadlollah said, "The secret service is behind this."

Sayed al Mousawi said: 'The followers of Fatima al-Zahra (as) and the American intelligence service can profit from every problem.'

Everyone left the meeting. ''
